Stable minimal hypersurfaces in R^5

I will discuss recent joint work with Otis Chodosh, Chao Li, and Paul Minter showing that every complete two-sided stable minimal hypersurface in R^5 is flat. This result answers a natural generalization of a classic PDE problem dating back to Bernstein in 1914.
