Noncompact 3-manifolds with positive scalar curvature

Manifolds of dimension n with positive scalar curvature are conjectured to behave like manifolds of dimension n-2 on large scales. For noncompact 3-manifolds with positive scalar curvature, I will present a geometric construction using Gromov's mu-bubbles that settles some special cases of this broad conjecture. I will also indicate some applications of the construction to stable minimal hypersurfaces in 4-manifolds. These results are based on joint work with Otis Chodosh and Chao Li.
