Title: Elliptic Curve Cryptography

Abstract: I will begin by describing how elliptic curves defined over finite fields are used to encrypt messages
and what problem must be solved in order to break an elliptic curve cryptosystem. Then I will discuss recent
developments, focusing on two themes:
(1) attempts to attack these cryptosystems using elliptic curves over global fields
(2) construction of digital signatures using both general group properties and specific features of elliptic curves
