Analysis of the EEG signal: the methods and challenges
Abstract: Electroencephalogram (EEG) is an
electric signal recorded from
the scalp. This signal has been used for the last half of century
to diagnose neurological diseases (e.g. epilepsy) and to
investigate brain functioning in psychological experiments.
Although the technique is old, recently it attracts lot of
interest because the advances in signal processing allows to
extract from the signal more and more information.
This
talk will review the currently used methods of analyzing
EEG signal, which will include: analyzing the averaged wave
forms, time-frequency analysis, analysis of coherence between
brain regions, independent component analysis, and source
localization. In the end, the open problems will be presented
and possible solutions discussed.
